Game recap: Estero grabs late lead to take down Palmetto Ridge

Estero (Fla.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as Christian Phillips thew a touchdown to Ricky Lopez with 5:00 left, bringing the team to victory over Palmetto Ridge (Naples, Fla.) 39-20.

The teams went into the locker room at halftime deadlocked at 13. The Wildcats took the lead for good on a Phillips touchdown pass to Lopez in the fourth quarter.

Estero's standout player in the win was Alan Romero. The junior ran for three touchdowns and kicked three extra points.

Javion Morgan made a difference for the Bears. He caught two touchdowns. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.

Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 47-40 win for EHS.



The victory was a step in the right direction for the Wildcats, which was coming off a 59-21 defeat at the hands of East Lee County in its previous game.

In a non-conference game next week Palmetto Ridge (1-5) takes on Golden Gate, and Estero (3-2) will go up against Cape Coral in a 5A District 11 game.
