Basketball Game Preview: Angleton Wildcats vs. Iowa Colony Pioneers

The Angleton Wildcats will take on the Iowa Colony Pioneers in a holiday battle at at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Angleton is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Lamar Consolidated: they outscored them in every quarter. Angleton blew past Lamar Consolidated 59-38 on Tuesday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 458th, while the Mustangs are ranked 1311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Iowa Colony had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They skirted past the Indians 51-48.

Iowa Colony's win came from a few key players Angleton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Eryn Roberts, who went 10 of 21 on her way to 20 points and five rebounds. Her evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Rogers, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards.

Iowa Colony smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 19 consecutive games.

Iowa Colony has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Angleton, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5.

Angleton came up short against Iowa Colony in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 24-15. Can Angleton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
