Basketball Game Preview: West Genesee Wildcats vs. Marcellus Mustangs

The West Genesee Wildcats and the Marcellus Mustangs will round out the year against one another at at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

West Genesee is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Liverpool last Friday. West Genesee fell to Liverpool 57-52. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Warriors are ranked 26th).

Meanwhile, Marcellus waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They breezed by the Lions to the tune of 92-45. That looming 92-45 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mustangs yet this season.

Marcellus pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 86.7 points per game. As for West Genesee, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.

West Genesee beat Marcellus 68-56 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Does West Genesee have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marcellus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
