Crescent Valley hasn't had much luck against West Albany recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Raiders will head out to square off against the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Crescent Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Crescent Valley took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Corvallis, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Raiders had just enough and edged out the Spartans 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Raiders have posted since March 18th.
Abby Kessler was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Ashley Howitt was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
West Albany not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 21, 2024. Everything went their way against South Albany as they made off with a 9-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Redhawks: they've now won four in a row.
Gabriella Young 2027 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Amelia Kidd 2026 was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That run marked the first that she scored this season. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Chaffins 2026, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
West Albany was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Crescent Valley's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-6. As for West Albany, their record is now 2-7.
West Albany's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Crescent Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. It's a different story for West Albany, though, as they've only averaged .304. Will they be able to contain Crescent Valley's hitters?
Crescent Valley might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from West Albany in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
