Baseball Recap: South Fort Myers Finds Playoff Glory Versus Dunbar

It's playoff time, and South Fort Myers had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over the Dunbar Tigers on Monday. The Wolfpack's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Parker Eyre made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Eyre was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. He has become a key player for South Fort Myers: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, Julio Diaz was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Fernando Valenzuela was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

South Fort Myers always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dunbar only posted an OBP of .143.

The win (which was South Fort Myers' third in a row) raised their record to 11-14. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Dunbar, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

Looking ahead, South Fort Myers will square off against Palmetto Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Bears have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Dunbar does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
