Softball Recap: Bloomington South Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Bloomington South dropped their record down to 4-2 on Monday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell 7-4 to the Center Grove Trojans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 4-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Akasha Burton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Center Grove, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

On Center Grove's side, they got a great performance from Kara Biever as she struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Biever has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mae Munson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Sydney Herrmann was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bloomington South will welcome White River Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers are facing the Wolverines at the right time seeing as the Wolverines are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Center Grove, they will be playing at home against Franklin Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
