Basketball Game Preview: Crockett County Cavaliers vs. South Gibson Hornets

Crockett County hasn't had much luck against South Gibson recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Crockett County Cavaliers will square off against the South Gibson Hornets at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Crockett County was able to grind out a solid victory over Dyer County, taking the game 64-54. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Choctaws recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, South Gibson earned a 32-20 victory over Obion County on Saturday. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Rebels are ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Gibson's win came from a few key players Crockett County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jade Reed, who posted seven points and three steals. She is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 60% in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Karson Dunn, who scored eight points.

South Gibson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.7 points over those games. As for Crockett County, their record now sits at 19-6.

Things could have been worse for Crockett County, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-33 loss to South Gibson when the teams last played back in January. Can Crockett County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
