Softball Recap: Marquez Comes Up Short

Monday just wasn't the day for Marquez's offense. They fell just short of the Providence Pioneers by a score of 1-0 on Monday. The Gladiators were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Pioneers' pitcher proved too tough.

Darla Sanchez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

The loss snapped Marquez's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-2 record. As for Providence, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.

Looking ahead, Marquez will host Sotomayor at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be the Gladiators' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Providence, they will venture away from home to challenge Harvard-Westlake at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
