Basketball Game Preview: Roosevelt Roughriders vs. Rainier Beach Vikings

Roosevelt is 0-10 against Rainier Beach since January of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Roosevelt Roughriders will take on the Rainier Beach Vikings at 7:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Roosevelt lost to O'Dea on the road by a 54-37 margin. The contest marked the Roughriders' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Roosevelt's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Anthony Washington, who posted 13 points, and Jacob Sprangers, who earned ten points. Sprangers continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Pearson Dukes, who had five points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rainier Beach). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Nathan Hale 139-51. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 23 points or more this season.

The win (which was Rainier Beach's fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 94.8 points per game. As for Roosevelt, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.

Roosevelt came up short against Rainier Beach when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 75-63. Can Roosevelt avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
