Baseball Recap: Wellsville Comes Up Short

Wellsville fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Southern on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 6-5. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Indians earlier this season, when they won 12-2.

Darnell Roe was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed over his last three games.

At the plate, Leland Monte was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Richie Wyse, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Wellsville's defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Southern, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-8 record.
