Baseball Recap: Elida Takes a Loss

Elida extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-7. They lost 22-0 to the Gateway Christian Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Elida saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bradly Burris, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Burris has become a key player for the Tigers: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-5 otherwise.

As for Gateway Christian, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won 12 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

On Gateway Christian's side, Zack McCracken was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. McCracken has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Gateway Christian let Gavin Martinez and Colton Overcash run wild. Martinez got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Overcash got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most doubles Martinez has posted since April 2nd. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenden Sills, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Gateway Christian beat Elida by a score of 27-2 later that day.
