Basketball Recap: Morgan Shoemaker Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Maple Valley

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bronson, Springport was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Maple Valley Lions as the Springport Spartans made off with a 63-37 victory. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Springport's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Morgan Shoemaker, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Shoemaker continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Hattie Gray was another key player, putting up ten points along with five assists and three steals.

Springport was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maple Valley only four assists.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aubree Roth, who posted 11 points and eight boards. The dominant performance also gave Roth a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (50%). Another player making a difference was Taylor Casey, who scored six points and seven rebounds.

Springport now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Maple Valley, their loss was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

Springport didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-54 defeat against Concord on the 13th. As for Maple Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 59-13 loss against Reading on the 13th.
