Baseball Recap: Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles vs. Torrance Tartars

Saturday just wasn't the day for Capistrano Valley Christian's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Torrance Tartars on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Capistrano Valley Christian of the 8-7 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

Capistrano Valley Christian got a good showing from Reid Boyer, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Boyer has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in eight consecutive pitching appearances.

Even though they lost, Capistrano Valley Christian didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with five strikeouts. This was only their 14th loss (out of 22 games) when they post five or more strikeouts.

Capistrano Valley Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Torrance, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Capistrano Valley Christian will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Esperanza at 3:00 p.m. Capistrano Valley Christian is facing Esperanza at the right time seeing as Esperanza is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Torrance, they will head out on the road to square off against Wiseburn- Da Vinci at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Torrance is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
