Basketball Game Preview: Mount Vernon Tigers vs. Winnsboro Raiders

Mount Vernon is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Winnsboro is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mount Vernon Tigers will host the Winnsboro Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Mount Vernon is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Rains just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were dealt a 63-25 defeat at the hands of the Wildcats. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, Winnsboro blew past Commerce, posting a 70-30 win. The Raiders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Winnsboro is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.1 points per game. As for Mount Vernon, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 12-9.

Mount Vernon ended up a good deal behind Winnsboro when the teams last played back in January of 2024, losing 55-40. Can Mount Vernon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
