The Viewmont Vikings will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Cottonwood Colts at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Viewmont barely beat Farmington the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went Viewmont's way against Farmington on Monday as Viewmont made off with an 18-3 victory. The Vikings have beaten the Phoenix the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Phoenix has come to flipping the script.

Beckham Smith and Cal Miller were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Smith pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Miller tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Smith posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Smith scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Miller got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two triples, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, James Peterson was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Elias Culley, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI and one run.
Viewmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Farmington only posted an OBP of .278.
Meanwhile, Cottonwood put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Taylorsville.
Cottonwood also got a great performance from Milo Crayk as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brighton Young, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Dominick Fuchuck was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Viewmont's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Cottonwood, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Viewmont came up short against Cottonwood in their previous matchup back in March of 2016, falling 8-3. Can Viewmont avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
