Preview: Sand Creek Scorpions vs. Pueblo County Hornets
The Sand Creek Scorpions and the Pueblo County Hornets will face off at 3:00 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sand Creek has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
On Saturday, Sand Creek's game was all tied up 19-19 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They enjoyed a cozy 58-41 win over Cheyenne Mountain. That looming 58-41 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Sand Creek yet this season.
Sand Creek found their leader in underclassman Jeffrey Cooks, who went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 1 assists. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Elijah Brotherns, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Pueblo County unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to Golden. While losing is never fun, Pueblo County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Golden is ranked eighth).
Sand Creek's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Pueblo County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-1.
Sand Creek came up short against Pueblo County in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 66-53. Can Sand Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
