Basketball Recap: Jr Welch's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Moffat County over Steamboat Springs

Moffat County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 54-50 heartbreaker at the hands of the Steamboat Springs Sailors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sailors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-48 back in January.

Moffat County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jr Welch, who posted 14 points and seven boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last three games he's played. Kenyen Camilletti was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Connor Baptiste had an outrageously good game for Steamboat Springs as he en route to 31 points and six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Baptiste has scored at least a third of Steamboat Springs' points. Another player making a difference was Jeffrey Sturges, who earned 13 points and three steals.

Moffat County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Steamboat Springs, their victory bumped their record up to 7-13.

Coincidentally, Moffat County and Steamboat Springs will both be playing Delta the next time they take the court. Moffat County will head out to face Delta at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Steamboat Springs will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st.
