Baseball Recap: Jenkins Takes a Loss

Jenkins had lost eight straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it nine. They lost 13-3 to the Knott County Central Patriots. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Roger Niles made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Jenkins: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-10 otherwise.

As for Knott County Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games.

On Knott County Central's side, Jaden Amburgey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Amburgey was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and three stolen bases. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Carson Sims was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Raichel, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Knott County Central beat Jenkins by a score of 14-0 later that day.
