Softball Game Preview: Northwest Indians vs. Lutheran West Longhorns

The Northwest Indians will square off against the Lutheran West Longhorns at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Northwest is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Norton 6-4. The win was some much needed relief for the Indians as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Lola Bleakley, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Autumn Kennard, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

Lutheran West never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Bard Early College on Thursday. They came out on top against the Raptors by a score of 15-12.

Peyton Steinbrenner and Emerson 'Emmy' Hayes did most of the damage at the plate: Steinbrenner got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Hayes got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. What's more, Steinbrenner posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Miller, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Lutheran West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory got Lutheran West back to even at 10-10. As for Northwest, their win bumped their record up to 3-11.
