Baseball Game Preview: Sugar Valley Rural Phoenix vs. Muncy Indians

Sugar Valley Rural hasn't had much luck against Muncy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Phoenix are taking a road trip to square off against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Muncy took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Sugar Valley Rural, who comes in off a win.

Sugar Valley Rural will bounce into Monday's game after beating Sullivan County, who they had gone 0-7 against in their seven prior meetings. The Phoenix put the hurt on the Griffins with a sharp 10-2 win on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Phoenix sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Brody Swanger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has become a key player for Sugar Valley Rural: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-7-1 otherwise. Swanger was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Tobias Conoway was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Lincoln Breon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Sugar Valley Rural kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Muncy came up short against Canton on Friday and fell 9-5. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sugar Valley Rural's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-8-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Muncy, they now have a losing record of 6-7-1.
