Preview: El Camino Eagles vs. Sacramento Dragons
Two dominant guards in Demetrious Perry and Sir Marius Jones are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The El Camino Eagles will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Sacramento Dragons at 7:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for El Camino: they have been struggling with nine straight losses at home, while Sacramento has snatched up seven consecutive wins on the road.
El Camino suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 65-40 walloping at the hands of Christian Brothers. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points El Camino has scored all season.
Perry put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Justin Watts, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
El Camino struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Christian Brothers racked up 15 assists.
Meanwhile, even though Rio Americano scored an imposing 60 points on Monday, Sacramento still came out on top. Sacramento took their match against Rio Americano 71-60. Given Sacramento's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Rio Americano is ranked 298th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
El Camino has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Sacramento, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.
Things could have been worse for El Camino, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-42 loss to Sacramento in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can El Camino avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
