Softball Recap: Ben L. Smith's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Ben L. Smith can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Western Guilford Hornets as they made off with a 23-13 victory. The Golden Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Alana Lee and Keani Scurlock-Slade did most of the damage at the plate: Lee got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and five RBI, while Scurlock-Slade scored four runs and stole five bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Scurlock-Slade is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyzah Shuler, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Ben L. Smith's win bumped their record up to 2-8. As for Western Guilford, their defeat was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ben L. Smith will head out to challenge Dudley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Western Guilford, they are taking a road trip to square off against Grimsley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: the Whirlies will have lost five straight heading into Friday's match.
