The Hilltoppers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Forest Hills on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
The team relied heavily on Liz Veranese, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Cali Lynch, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Westmont Hilltop kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 19 runs the game before, Hollidaysburg was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They lost 15-1 to Bedford.
Hollidaysburg saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Hicks, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Hollidaysburg's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Westmont Hilltop, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Hollidaysburg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Westmont Hilltop has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Hollidaysburg, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Westmont Hilltop's sizable advantage in that area, the Golden Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
