Basketball Recap: Omar Dubose's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Coronado over Air Academy

Coronado was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Air Academy Kadets. The Cougars lost against the Kadets in their previous head to head back in January of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 78-53 score last time.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Omar Dubose, who posted ten points and six rebounds. Those six boards gave Dubose a new career-high. Joshua Lysne was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

Air Academy was led to victory by Brody Winnett and Tommy Tygart. Winnett went 6 of 12 en route to 15 points along with seven boards and six steals, while Tygart went 6 for 15 on his way to 16 points. Another player making a difference was Kaden Mai, who put up four points and three steals.

Coronado's loss dropped their record down to 1-17. As for Air Academy, the win snapped their losing streak at nine games and leaves them with a 3-12 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coronado has already played their next contest (against Widefield), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Air Academy has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against Lewis-Palmer.
