Recap: Englewood Pirates vs. Aurora Central Trojans
The Englewood Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell just short of Aurora Central by a score of 49-47. Englewood lost against Aurora Central in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 61-51 score last time.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jonah Singer, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. The matchup was Singer's third in a row with at least ten points. Dominic Dever was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Aurora Central can attribute much of their success to Christopher (CP) Perkins, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ka'Mari May, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Englewood's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Aurora Central, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Englewood's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Lutheran presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Englewood in Colorado (Lutheran is ranked 84th, while Englewood is ranked 290th). As for Aurora Central, they will be playing at home against Prairie View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Prairie View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
