Basketball Recap: Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate Comes Up Short

On Monday, the Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate Phoenix came up short against the Lakeside Christian Lions and fell 44-35. The Phoenix have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jasani Andrews posted 15 points in addition to five assists and three steals. That was a full 42.9% of Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Lakeside Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ayva David led the charge by dropping a triple-double on 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 steals. David is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mauricia Climes, who had five points along with 15 boards and six steals.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Lakeside Christian, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 1-4.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bishop McLaughlin Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on December 27th. As for Lakeside Christian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 43-33 win against Foundation Christian Academy on the 17th.
