Basketball Recap: Elbert Comes Up Short

Elbert dropped to 14-5 on Tuesday, ending the team's seven-game streak of wins at home. They took a blow against the Simla Cubs, falling 72-39. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-14.

When it comes to explaining why Elbert lost, don't look at Eli Cornell. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-14 on his way to 16 points. Sam Cornell was another key player, putting up seven points and five boards.

As for Simla, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points over those games.

It was another big night for Tatum Kocerha, who dropped a double-double with 31 points and 21 rebounds. The matchup was his fifth in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Evan Guy, who posted 19 points.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Elbert will venture away from home to square off against Rocky Mountain Lutheran at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.78 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Simla, they are taking a road trip to take on Burlington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
