Basketball Recap: Bellevue East Takes a Loss

Bellevue East scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They were outmatched by the Millard West Wildcats and fell 85-53. The Chieftains have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Bellevue East had strong showings from Elijah Scott, who went 5-for-12 en route to 18 points, and Tayjon Morton-Swift, who posted 15 points and five steals. Morton-Swift continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Deng Tut also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Millard West's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vincent Long, who shot 63% from the field on his way to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Long has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ben LaBorde, who went 7-for-8 to rack up 15 points.

Bellevue East's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Millard West, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-2.

Coming up, Bellevue East will head out to challenge Lewis Central at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Millard West, they have already played their next game, an 86-76 defeat against Omaha Westside on the 18th.
