Baseball Game Preview: Madison Patriots vs. Mitchell Mountaineers

For the second straight game, Madison will face off against Mitchell. The Patriots will square off against the Mountaineers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Madison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Mitchell hit Madison with a six-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Patriots fell 11-6 to the Mountaineers.

For Mitchell's part, they got a big performance out of Kaden Buchanan, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. The Mountaineers are 4-1 when Buchanan posts two or more runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Noah Vines was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mitchell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive matchups.

Mitchell is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Madison, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Madison has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mitchell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
