Baseball Game Preview: Wray Eagles vs. Burlington Cougars

The Wray Eagles will face off against the Burlington Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Wray is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Wray came up short against Akron and fell 8-4. The match marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Gage Waitman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 1-for-3. Wray is 2-1 when Waitman posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Burlington fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Colby on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 6-5. The Cougars just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Lenny Ramirez put in work no matter where he played. He pitched 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Ramirez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Ramirez wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rowdy Humrich, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Humrich hit this season.

Wray now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Burlington, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Wray skirted past Burlington 7-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
