Softball Game Preview: Hellgate Knights vs. Helena Bengals

Hellgate hasn't had much luck against Helena recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Knights are taking a road trip to take on the Bengals at 12:00 p.m. Hellgate has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Hellgate came up short against Ronan and fell 15-10.

Nat Blaney led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Donalynn Headswift, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Helena faced Sentinel in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Bengals skirted past the Spartans 3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Bengals sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Faith Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Keira Campbell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Klemp, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.

Helena's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hellgate, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Hellgate suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Helena in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
