Basketball Recap: New Lexington Takes a Loss

New Lexington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against the Maysville Panthers, falling 72-45. While losing is never fun, New Lexington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Maysville is ranked 48th).

New Lexington lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Corey Adam, who went 6 for 13 en route to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Adam a new career-high. Bentley Hanson was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Maysville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gator Nichols, who went 7 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 27 points and five rebounds. The matchup was Nichols' 18th in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kane Roehrig, who went 8 for 11 to rack up 20 points along with six assists and six boards.

New Lexington's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Maysville, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.

New Lexington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-40 defeat against West Muskingum on the 7th. As for Maysville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 64-26 victory against Meadowbrook on the 7th.
