League recap: Discovery Canyon tops Coronado to extend winning streak

3A South Central recap November 5, 2013

Adding to the longest winning streak in 3A South Central this week, Discovery Canyon beat Coronado 24-20. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Thunder.

Lewis-Palmer and Woodland Park played the closest game in the league this week, with Lewis-Palmer eventually emerging with a 35-32 victory. Matt Brines ran for 175 yards in the win.

Zeb Foster was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Cougars fell to Discovery Canyon. The 6-foot-1 junior recorded 1 fumble.

Brines provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Rangers defeated the Panthers.

Joah Smith put up the best numbers in passing as Coronado fell to Shawn Mitchell's team. He finished with 10 completions for 173 yards and 1 touchdown. Smith's favorite target this week was Devon Baker, who caught 2 passes for 92 yards.

Coronado's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Cougars feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 1,117 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Sam Smith has 26 catches for 417 yards.

Bobby Lizarraga's team's Isaah Duvall is a mere 4 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 125 carries Duvall has accumulated 996 yard this year.

Lewis-Palmer led the league in scoring this week after putting up 35 points on Woodland Park. Brines ran for 175 yards during the win.
