Softball Recap: Plainfield East Sets Scoring Season-High Against Joliet Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plainfield East). Everything went their way against the Joliet Central Steelmen on Thursday as they made off with a 32-0 victory. With that win, the Bengals brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.

Maya Patel looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Kaleigh Cawthon was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Iliana Smith also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Plainfield East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Plainfield East and bumps their season record up to 7-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Joliet Central, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-10.

Coincidentally, Plainfield East and Joliet Central will both be playing Plainfield Central the next time they take the field. The Bengals will head out to face the Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, while the Steelmen will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
