Softball Game Preview: Prep Charter Huskies vs. Nueva Esperanza

The Prep Charter Huskies will take on Nueva Esperanza at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Prep Charter came up short against Carver High School of Engineering & Science and fell 9-4. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Nueva Esperanza had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 14-8 win. Considering Nueva Esperanza has won four games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nueva Esperanza let Yedelis Benitez and Gyliani Ortiz run wild. Benitez went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI, while Ortiz fired off two home runs, three stolen bases, and four runs while going 3-for-3. Ortiz is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Alesyn Lopez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Nueva Esperanza always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .617 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Nueva Esperanza's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Prep Charter, they now have a losing record of 2-3-1.

Prep Charter got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 against Nueva Esperanza by a conclusive 31-17 score. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do Nueva Esperanza have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
