Softball Preview: Hill Falcons vs. Del Mar Dons
Hill has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Del Mar Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Hill scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Evergreen Valley and snuck past 23-22. The win was just what Hill needed coming off of a 19-4 defeat in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Del Mar put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They won by a run and slipped past Overfelt 10-9. Despite the victory, that was the fewest runs Del Mar has scored all season.
Natalie Dixon was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 18 batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits. Dixon has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Dixon was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Niarah Aimonetti was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Suzette Hernandez de Orta, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and a double.
Hill made their fans wait, but they earned their first win of the season to make their record 1-10. As for Del Mar, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-0.
