Softball Recap: Louisville Sets Scoring Season-High Against Calabasas

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Louisville). Everything went their way against the Calabasas Coyotes on Thursday as the Louisville Royals made off with a 15-1 win. The Royals have beaten the Coyotes the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Coyotes has come to flipping the script.

Kelsey Vitalis made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lily Rodriguez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Olivia Ortega, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one stolen base.

Louisville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calabasas only posted a batting average of .111.

Louisville's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Calabasas, their loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Louisville will take on Harvard-Westlake at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Calabasas, they will face off against Westlake at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
