Basketball Recap: Westover Wolverines vs. Harnett Central Trojans
The Westover Wolverines waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They strolled past Harnett Central with points to spare, taking the game 65-46. Given Westover's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Trojans are ranked 480th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westover was led to victory by Ari Fulton and Malachi Allen. Fulton dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Allen scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. Allen hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerimiah Mcgrady, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Harnett Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rylan Beasley, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Kemaury Haywood, who scored eight points.
Westover pushed their record up to 16-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points per game. As for Harnett Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
Westover will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Triton is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season. As for Harnett Central, they will head out on the road to challenge the Golden Bulls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. E.E.
