Basketball Recap: Kailee Staniland's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ventura over Oak Park

If Ventura was feeling good fresh off their 74-49 takedown of Camarillo on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars took a 56-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oak Park Eagles on Tuesday. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.

Ventura lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kailee Staniland, who went 9-for-21 en route to 24 points. She is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 42% in the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Emma Anter was another key player, putting up nine points and five assists.

Ventura's record now sits at 1-1. As for Oak Park, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Looking ahead, Ventura will face off against Saugus at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Oak Park, they will square off against Canyon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
