Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Cowboys vs. Cimarron-Memorial Spartans

The Chaparral Cowboys will head out on the road to face off against the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Chaparral is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Legacy on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Chaparral lost 89-66 to Legacy. The Cowboys have struggled against the Longhorns recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Cimarron-Memorial had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They really took it to the Dragons for the full four quarters, racking up a 68-40 victory. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Dragons are ranked 90th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cimarron-Memorial has also been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.5 points per game. As for Chaparral, they now have a losing record at 12-13.

Chaparral came up short against Cimarron-Memorial when the teams last played back in January, falling 78-65. Can Chaparral avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
