Football Recap: Greensburg Wins Going Away Against Rushville

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against East Central, Greensburg was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Rushville Lions 36-16. The high-scoring effort was just what the Pirates needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Greensburg found their leader in sophomore Levi Muckerheide, who rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 152 yards and one TD while completing 85.7% of his passes. Those 111 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Muckerheide. 87 of Muckerheide's passing yards were hauled in by Carson Kilgore.

Greensburg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 233 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Rushville saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kai Pernell punched in two rushing scores, and also picked up 90 receiving yards. Owen Zachery was another key player, rushing for 85 yards.

Greensburg's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-7. As for Rushville, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greensburg will head out to face off against Purdue Poly Englewood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Purdue Poly Englewood's defense has only allowed 12.3 points per game this season, so Greensburg's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Rushville, they are taking a road trip to square off against South Dearborn at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
