Football Recap: Elizabethtown Comes Up Short

If Elizabethtown was feeling good fresh off their 44-0 takedown of South Philadelphia last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bears took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ephrata Mountaineers on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 17-10 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Elizabethtown saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Prince Wratto rushed for 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also picked up 46 receiving yards.

Ephrata's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malachi Knowles, who rushed for 68 yards and one score, and also threw for 60 yards and one TD. Knowles showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 51 yards. Bentley Rearich helped out on the ground, rushing for 102 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Elizabethtown's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Ephrata, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Elizabethtown has already played their next matchup, a 35-21 loss against Muhlenberg on the 26th. As for Ephrata, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 24-0 defeat against Exeter Township on the 26th.
