Baseball Recap: Riverdale Beats Southwestern for Their Third Straight Victory

Riverdale waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Southwestern Wildcats with a sharp 11-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Chieftains considering their two-run performance the game before.

Ethan Kagel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Riverdale is 2-1 when Kagel allows one or fewer earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Kagel was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Talan Childs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Chase Chitwood was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

The win got Riverdale back to even at 7-7. As for Southwestern, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Riverdale will challenge rival Boscobel at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Southwestern is set to square off against their familiar foe Fennimore at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
