Basketball Recap: Humphrey-Lindsay Comes Up Short

After flying high against Neligh-Oakdale last Thursday, Humphrey-Lindsay came back down to earth. The Humphrey-Lindsay Bulldogs were dealt a 61-34 loss at the hands of the Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] Bobcats on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Bobcats are ranked 26th).

Humphrey-Lindsay's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Groteluschen, who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Kurtenbach, who scored 13 points and six rebounds.

Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard]'s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Preston Hoke led the charge by going 8 of 12 en route to 16 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Sam Cheatum, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten assists.

With the loss, Humphrey-Lindsay broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-7. As for Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard], the win keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Humphrey-Lindsay will face off against Madison on Thursday. As for Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard], a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] Bobcats challenge the Boone Central Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season.
