Softball Game Preview: Tolsia Rebels vs. Martin County Cardinals

Tolsia hasn't had much luck against Martin County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Rebels will face off against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Martin County took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Tolsia, who comes in off a win.

Tolsia gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Grace Christian as they made off with a 14-3 victory. That looming 14-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Rebels yet this season.

Kalynn Salmons was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Tolsia let Carly Johnson and Bailee Belt run wild. Johnson went 3-for-6 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Belt went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Maynard, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Martin County fell victim to Paintsville and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 12-0. The Cardinals' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

The win got Tolsia back to even at 6-6. As for Martin County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Everything went Tolsia's way against Martin County in their previous meeting back in March, as Tolsia made off with an 11-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
