Volleyball Game Preview: Sidney Yellowjackets vs. Greenville Green Wave

For the second straight game, Sidney will face off against Greenville. The Yellowjackets will take on the Green Wave in a tournament on Tuesday.

While Sidney's victory against Greenville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Yellowjackets narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Green Wave 3-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 12, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Sidney had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 21-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-4.

Sidney can attribute much of their success to Ahniyah Wilson, who had 20 digs and four aces, and Marly Coons, who had ten digs and two aces. That's the most digs Coons has posted since back in September.

They weren't the only good servers: Sidney was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 12 consecutive matches.

Sidney's victory bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Greenville, with the defeat, they broke their six-match winning streak and moved their record to 12-10.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Sidney hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 6.5 blocks per game. It's a different story for Greenville, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 blocks. Given Sidney's sizable advantage in that area, the Green Wave will need to find a way to close that gap.
