Softball Game Preview: Three Rivers Bulldogs vs. D'Hanis Cowboys

The Three Rivers Bulldogs will face off against the D'Hanis Cowboys at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Three Rivers is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Aransas Pass a 22-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Alyson Gomez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent over her last 15 matches. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three doubles, and four RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Kylee Garcia was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sydney Ruiz, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Three Rivers always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, D'Hanis sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over Sabinal on Saturday.

Three Rivers is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. D'Hanis' win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Three Rivers skirted past D'Hanis 5-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2021. Does Three Rivers have another victory up their sleeve, or will D'Hanis turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
