Basketball Game Preview: Trego Golden Eagles vs. Norton Bluejays

Trego is 2-8 against Norton since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Golden Eagles face off against the Bluejays at 6:00 p.m.

Trego is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Monday. They were beaten by Quinter 67-26. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 25th).

Meanwhile, Norton waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Redmen by a score of 45-34.

Trego better keep an eye on Hallie Brooks. She was instrumental in Norton's win, dropping a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Brooks has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last six times she's played. Caroline Fahrenbruch was another key player, putting up seven points.

Norton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Norton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.3 points over those games. As for Trego, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.

Trego came up short against Norton in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 47-34. Can Trego avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
