Basketball Game Preview: Martin County Gators vs. First Flight Nighthawks

The Martin County Gators will square off against the First Flight Nighthawks at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Martin County will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Martin County is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Hertford County: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Gators blew the Bears out of the water with a 58-12 final score. The Gators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Jordan Matthewson, who shot 73% from the field on his way to 23 points along with seven boards and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kamarion Larry, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, First Flight didn't have too much trouble with Pasquotank County on Tuesday as they won 74-59.

Martin County's victory bumped their record up to 21-3. As for First Flight, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Martin County didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against First Flight in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 75-71 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
