Baseball Recap: Hockinson Takes a Loss

Hockinson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mark Morris Monarchs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Monarchs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-4 last Monday.

Graham Learing was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Anthony Cline made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Ethan Wall, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Hockinson's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Mark Morris, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

Coming up, Hockinson will head out on the road to face off against R.A. Long at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lumberjacks will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last. As for Mark Morris, they will be playing at home against Woodland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
